The Phoenix canariensis or Canary palm tree grows spontaneously in the seven islands that make up the Canary Islands.
On the island, La Gomera, survives an ancient culture around this beautiful species, since from it the villagers of this island make multiple uses: of their leaves called "pads" artisanal basketry is done and its used in livestock feed.
The spiny petiole "talajague" has been used for fencing, firewood and once removed the thorns as toys for children. The fruit "Tambara" even though they dont contain a lot of pulp, is tapped for livestock. From its roots, they make ropes and even after death it was useful because the trunk were used as hives for the bees. But of all these cultural practices which more highlights and differentiates La Gomera from the rest of the other islands and the rest of the world is that of obtaining well known as “Palm Honey” that we now call Extract of Canarian Palm.
